Green Oceanside, OUSD Teaming up for Annual Contest

Environmentally conscientious students are invited to use their creative talents in this year’s City of Oceanside “Create to Educate” performance art contest. All students in grades 1-12 are eligible to creatively express through writing, song, video or art how our community can help improve and save the environment.

Recycling, preserving natural resources, water conservation and renewable energy are some of the many areas for students to focus their entries. Click Create to Educate for contest rules and details.

The City of Oceanside also encourages students, teachers and parents to take part in Earth Month 2014. Visit to learn more about activities and learning opportunities.  For further information, contact Oceanside Environmental Specialist Jenna Roripaugh, at or by calling 760-435-5828.

The Oceanside Unified School District strongly encourages all students and parents to utilize precautionary health measures to help prevent the spread of germs that can lead to illness.  Click Flu Season to learn more about what you can do to prevent yourself from becoming infected, and what to do should you become ill.

Message From Principal Dr. Barragan

April 7-11, 2014

Welcome back from a restful week off!

I hope that you had a time to rest, relax and get prepared for the rest of the school year. We have so many things going on and the remainder of our time at Garrison for the 2013-2014 school year is going to fly by!

In place of CST students in grades 3-5 will be taking the SBAC (Smarter Balance Assessment Consortium) testing in April. This is a field test and will prepare students for the SBAC testing that will begin in the spring of the 2014-2015 school year.  For more information visit the common core website at

Only 42 Days of school left! Let's make the best of everyday.

  • Be Here
  • Be On Time
  • Be Safe
  • Have Fun

Please do not park or have students wait for you in the Garrison West Apartments located next to Garrison. If you are parked there you will be towed! Let's make every effort to ensure that students are safe.  We have also had some incidents where students who are waiting to be picked up at the apartments have been knocking on residents' doors and running away.  Student have also been running around in the housing parking lots and roads.

April's Key is Balance: Live your best life.  Be mindful of self and others while focusing on what is important in life.  Inner happiness and fulfillment come when your mind, body, and emotions are nurtured by the choices you make.
